I strongly believe Warren Morgan (Letters, March 11) has made a statement that is almost tantamount to heresy.

Here is a prospective Labour candidate stating that Labour is cutting red tape.

Labour invented red tape and, indeed, holds the patent and sole distribution right for this product.

Moreover, it is so heavily manufactured by them that it is probably the only manufacturing industry that isn't on its knees since Labour took office.

It also has a very sophisticated distribution network for this product.

It is doled out by huge bodies of people called bureaucrats, who are highly valued and paid enormous sums of money, funded, of course, by the long-suffering taxpayers.

Three particular areas are targeted by these people and include tying the police to their desks, thus preventing them from getting out on the streets to fight crime.

Red tape is causing asphyxia in the NHS and is also used to hog-tie headteachers, who have such a struggle to free themselves from it they barely, if ever, have enough time to teach their pupils the "three Rs".

If you fail to be selected, Mr Morgan, and you have a couple of nondescript A-levels and come from a disadvantaged background, perhaps you might like to try a university course - birdwatching for the blind, for example.

Bristol University will welcome you with open arms.
