A popular internet site which gives details about one of the UK's finest landscapes is to be upgraded.
The South Downs Virtual Information Centre celebrates its third anniversary this month.
Since then the centre has received more than 750,000 internet hits, providing visitors with access to more than 500 pages of information on the South Downs plus thousands of links to other web sites.
As well as publishing the latest news on issues affecting the area, the centre also has sections on protecting and conserving the Downs and as part of the anniversary celebrations, the centre's accommodation database is going to be updated to ensure it continues to provide a useful resource to visitors to the Downs.
At present the accommodation pages get more than 2,500 hits a week making it one of the most popular parts of the site.
The centre has proved an invaluable source of information, particularly during the foot-and-mouth crisis, during the height of which it received 18,000 hits a week on access to the countryside.
