Controversial plans for restoring the historic West Pier in Brighton were approved decisively by city planners last month.
They included shoreline buildings needed to make the restoration of this Grade I building a viable proposition.
It has taken 30 years to reach the point at which the pier can be restored. Meanwhile, sections of it are sliding into the sea.
But owners of the Palace Pier are still trying to hold it up by objecting to a Harbour Revision Order needed under arcane legislation which should have been repealed years ago.
A restored West Pier will attract more people to Brighton. Many of them will go on the excellent Palace Pier as well as its cousin along the coast.
The Palace Pier should drop its objection now and accept the £30 million West Pier restoration will benefit the whole city.
