Children can play happily and safely in Rottingdean thanks to the fund-raising efforts of their mothers.
The Play Area in Rottingdean Committee (Parc), which has its own shop in High Street, Rottingdean, has now got the go-ahead for a second play area off Longhill Road, Ovingdean.
Brighton and Hove city councillors have given the green light for its construction in the grounds of Ovingdean Hall School, The first play area to be created off Falmer Road, Rottingdean, is now up and running and a toilet block on the site is scheduled to be built in the summer.
The efforts of the mothers, including concerts by singer and double-bass player Herbie Flowers and top saxophonist Ron Aspery, have raised a total of £35,000.
Cathy Taylor, one of the Parc organisers, said: "There is a lack of play areas for the children in this area, especially this summer as the beach at Ovingdean will be closed for repairs to the Undercliff Walk.
"We kept being told provision of play areas was not a priority so we banded together to do something about it ourselves, otherwise generations of children would have been denied facilities."
