Skipper Gaylon Moore has called on his Worthing Thunder side to stay switched on for the full 40 minutes if they are to topple NBL leaders Teesside tonight.

The Mohawks head to Worthing Leisure Centre (8pm) virtually certain of finishing top of the Conference.

The corresponding fixture last season saw Teesside suffer their only defeat of a triumphant campaign and Thunder are desperate for a similar outcome after losing their last three games, all away.

The most recent was at Sutton last week when they went down 87-79 despite storming first and fourth quarter displays from Lavoris Jerry.

Moore, who was restricted to 13 points in that match, said; "It's no secret how to beat Teesside. We need to play hard and play team defence.

"When we lost to them in the Trophy final and also when we lost at their place we played well for 35 or 36 minutes but in those other four or five minutes we let them get away from us and we drifted away from our game plan.

"They made a run and pushed the lead out and we will need to hold them down the whole way this time."

Moore admitted: "For me personally Sutton was a tough game offensively, although I thought I did pretty well defensively.

"We lost, but there were positives. It was just another game where we played for 35 or 36 minutes but not the whole 40 and they capitalised on that."

Recent results have left Thunder back in fourth place, adrift of not only Teesside but also Plymouth and Reading.

The skipper admits Teesside will finish top but insisted: "We will probably end up in second place, although to do that we have got to win the remainder of our games."

Team mate Daniel Hildreth said: "We owe Teesside. We threw away the first match and we never even turned up for the second, not for the first few minutes anway.

"We had a really bad start and then tied with them over the rest of the game so we must start better this time and play the full 40 minutes.

"If we limit Ralph Bucci, who is a fantastic player in this league, we will have a chance."

Along with Jerry, Damien Harris was in great form last Saturday but there was a setback for Nick O'Harabe, whose contribution was limited by an ankle problem Depleted Worthing Magic went down 58-50 to Taunton, having trailed from the early stages.

Again missing their leading scorer Kirsty Dallas, Magic were also without Christie Rourke through concussion.

Taunton took an early lead and were ahead 13-7 at the first break. A change of defence to a 1-3-1 zone helped bring Magic back into the game.

Linda Bond, off the bench with a great post move, got Magic back to five before Taunton finished the half 28-21 ahead.

Consistent scoring was always the problem for Magic and although Louise Waghorn and Sarah Cooper carried most of the load it was never quite enough.

Magic are at home to Cardiff today (5.45pm) ahead of the Thunder game and need victory to move to within one win of second-placed London Towers in WNBL South.

Magic: Louise Waghorn 17, Sarah Cooper 14, Lynne Powell 9, Shelley Steel 6, Linda Bond 4.
