I was on the recent protest at the Grand Ocean Hotel not only because I do not want economic migrants in Saltdean but also, like many in this country, because I am concerned about the large numbers arriving.

Some are criminals and we already have enough of our own. Some are here for a free handout and many could be terrorists.

Some will be genuine and we must give them all the help we can. Many of the older, genuine refugees, mostly of South Asian origin who were chased out of Uganda years ago, are also concerned.

Readers will be well aware many white farmers and their families are being killed or chased out of Zimbabwe. Why are we not looking after these genuine asylum-seekers who, after all, are mostly of English descent.

I find it deplorable we are not checking the health of these immigrants, as do other countries. Our health service is under enough pressure as it is.

British subjects who have paid their dues for years are unable to get treatment and see new arrivals receiving immediate attention.

Our education system is under severe strain and no one can deny the extra problems attributed to different language and culture.

Millions of pounds need to be spent on our roads, which are in a terrible state in the South East.

The population is already far too large for the size of this country. It is unfair to future generations to allow further building in the South East, with a resulting growth in population which will inevitably mean thousands of extra vehicles.

Talking to the people of Saltdean confirmed my own feelings, that enough is enough. Let's think about our children's future first.

Finally, thousands of the immigrants arriving are able young men. They are desperately needed to help rebuild their own countries, which often we have freed from tyranny.
