Artificial intelligence experts have unveiled a robotic head which they say can determine how attractive women are to men.

But they have said it does not work as well in reverse because masculine appeal to women is not as likely to be based on looks alone.

A team at Intelligent Earth, a company which is based in Kirkcaldy, Fife, said the head-shaped android was capable of calculating how "feminine" or "masculine" a person's face is.

It uses web cams to record an image of a person's face and analyse it compared to previous faces it has seen.

It is hoped it can be developed into an electronic personnel assistant, which could take messages, recognise frequent visitors and address them by name.

The company said it has already received several orders from firms, colleges and robot enthusiasts.
