Albion Reserves made a Payne-filled exit from the Sussex Senior Cup last night.

Ian Payne's 17th-minute penalty earned Crawley a deserved 1-0 victory in the quarter-finals at the Broadfield Stadium.

Youngster Daniel Harding bundled over Warren Bagnall inside the box after he had been dispossessed by the Crawley striker.

Payne drilled the spot-kick past Will Packham into the roof of the net to book Crawley's semi-final place against the winners of the replay between Burgess Hill and Rye and Iden United.

Albion could have no complaints. They would have lost more comfortably if Crawley's finishing had been sharper.

Bagnall was the main culprit. He blazed wide early on from Payne's pass, then spurned two further opportunities to double Crawley's advantage.

He missed a gaping goal following a mistake by substitute Adam El-Abd and also had a shot from a tight angle blocked by Packham.

Perhaps Albion boss Dean White kicked a boot across the dressing room Fergie fashion at half-time.

His team were dreadful in the first half but showed a bit more purpose after the break.

Crawley keeper Andy Little was still only called into meaningful action twice. He made routine saves in quick succession from John Piercy's low drive and Chris McPhee's near post header midway through the second period.

A miserable evening for Albion ended with goal-shy Graham Barrett requiring treatment for a knock. The on-loan Arsenal forward is poised to replace the suspended Gary Hart against Milwall on Saturday.
