Ryan Loversidge struck the only goal as Littlehampton beat Ringmer 1-0 to claim their first win of the season in County League Division One.

New signing Loversidge, snapped up from local football, scored in the last minute as the Marigolds finally clinched three points at the 29th attempt.

It looked like a chance of victory had been wasted ten minutes from time when Jan Miller missed from the penalty spot but Loversidge spared his blushes.

Manager Carl Stabler, who missed the match, said: "It has been coming for the last few weeks. We should have beaten Wick and we should have beaten Selsey. Ringmer are not a bad side which makes it all the more pleasing."

Littlehampton have already resigned themselves to relegation but the other teams battling to avoid the drop did themselves no favours.

None of the bottom four won which made fifth bottom Redhill's 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers Wick all the more important.

Both goals were from headers, striker Adrian Moses in the first half and centre back Lee Osborn after the interval.

Wick remain in the bottom three along with Peacehaven who lost 2-1 at home to Sidlesham.

Glen Bridgeman put the visitors ahead from a free kick in the first half. New signing Aaron MacMillan levelled after the interval but top-scorer Richie Davies struck his 27th of the season ten minutes from time to seal victory.

Manager Richard Towers said: "It was a scrappy game. We didn't play well but have come away with the points which they say is the sign of a good side."

Selsey have games in hand but remain on level points with Peacehaven after a 2-0 defeat at home to Whitehawk.

An own goal and Dean Venton's second half strike decided the issue although Hawks boss Ian Chapman admitted his side were holding on towards the end.

Chapman said: "We deserved to win but our goalkeeper Wayne Collins made one unbelievable save at 2-0. At the time we were under a lot of pressure so you could say he saved us the points."
