A group which helps disabled people has been awarded an £111,000 lottery grant.

The money has been given to the Brighton and Hove Federation of Disabled People by the National Lottery community fund.

It will receive the award over three years, allowing the group to continue to run its welfare advice surgery for disabled people.

It advises them on benefit entitlements and allows them to decide for themselves how money should be spent on their care.

The group is based in Rutland Gardens, Hove. It also runs the Disability Advice Centre at Hove Manor in Hove Street.

Other services include counselling and providing alternative therapies, including acupuncture and massage.

Hove MP Ivor Caplin said: "This group does valuable work representing the interests of disabled people and it thoroughly deserves this money."

News of the award came in a letter to Mr Caplin from the community fund, which distributes Lottery money to groups helping disadvantaged people improve the quality of their lives.
