Lewes are preparing themselves for a second successive battle against the drop following a 5-1 defeat at relegation rivals Formby.

Lewes are now third from bottom in National League division two with Formby leapfrogging them courtesy of goal difference.

With one team being relegated and another facing a play-off battle to avoid relegation, Lewes know they must start picking up points in the coming matches.

The next three games are all at home, although Saturday's visit of unbeaten leaders Bowdon suggests things might get worse before they get better.

Team manager Paul Benoy said: "Formby were flattered by the 5-1 scoreline. It looks a lot worse than how it came about.

"We have three home games on the trot now and we have to look for a minimum of four points, preferably six, from those games. It is clear there are going to be four or five teams battling to keep out of the bottom two positions."

Adrian Bettesworth scored from a short corner for Lewes but they were 3-0 down by that stage. Formby wrapped up victory with two goals on the break.

Elsewhere, Andrew Medcalf scored on his debut for Bath Buccaneers but his new side lost 4-2 at Havant. Medcalf joined Bath from East Grinstead.
