Prolific marksman Craig Carolan took his tally to 35 in 13 league games with a five-goal blast as Brighton beat Mid Sussex 6-3 in Kent/Sussex Regional League.

Carolan's finishing again proved the difference against a Mid Sussex side who lost their discipline at times.

The player-coach's haul included a hat-trick of penalty flicks plus two from short corners.

Brighton skipper Carlo Missirian said: "I have never been in a match where there have been three flicks. The flicks and the short corners came from some very good pressure play from the team.

"We have a guy who is putting them away but there is a lot of very good team work leading up to them. It is an added bonus to know we have someone who is phenomenal in front of goal."

Paul Watson was also on target while Mids, who were down to nine-men for much of the second half, replied through Phil Middleton (two) and Steve Newton.

Missirian added: "The discipline of the side was excellent and in the second half we played some of our best hockey. That discipline and mental strength will be important to us if we are to win this league."

Meanwhile, Worthing won 3-1 win away to Horsham.

First-half domination was reflected in goals from John Massie, with a reverse stick finish, and Rex Fuller.

In the second half, Horsham rallied but Worthing scored a third goal with a fine solo effort from Ramiz Inga, his first for the first team.

Lee Martin shone at the back for Worthing. Horsham replied through Dom Cohen.
