London stands a very good chance of hosting the 2012 Olympic Games.
This is just the situation Brighton and Hove must grasp and make the most of.
We can - and should - host the Olympic swimming competition. We must build an Olympic-standard swimming pool on the Black Rock site.
The city has long been promised a pool at that location - it was even supposed to be part of the Marina specification.
Our new stadium at Falmer will have been built by then and there may be some spin-off events that could be staged there, too.
