I was very interested in the article (The Argus, January 22) on the Lewes avalanche of December 1836. The victim, Mary Taylor, was my great great grandmother.

One of her sons, George, married a Mercy Baker from Glynde and lived in Foundry Lane, Lewes, for many years. He was my great grandfather and had, I believe, ten children.

I am tracing my family history and was given the details about Mary Taylor by my mother's 95-year-old cousin, who lives in Tunbridge Wells.

I am unable to go further back because I do not know Mary Taylor's maiden name. She was married to a George Taylor and was aged 42 years when she died. I wonder if any readers also related to Mary Taylor could give me any further information?
