In an article published on January 22, I was quoted as being an eyewitness to a violent incident at a pub near Brighton railway station.

I was not there and wish to disassociate myself from the comments attributed to me.

I believe some moron has poked his beak in and used my name to hide behind.

It may be he was involved in the violence and therefore did not want his name used.

I do accept The Argus acted in good faith and genuinely believed it was me who had contacted its reporter but would respectfully suggest it tightens up its checking of sources to prevent such cranks dragging the name of innocent third parties into print.
