A "one-boy crime wave" has been named and shamed as he and a co-defendant were locked up for robbing an 81-year-old woman.

Andrew Dillon, 14, who was 13 at the time of the robbery, was sentenced to four years and nine months in custody while David Chiswell, also 14, was sentenced to four years.

Judge Anthony Thorpe lifted reporting restrictions when the youths appeared at Chichester Crown Court, saying that the seriousness of the offences meant the public had a right to know their identities.

Dillon, formerly of Ten Acres, Worthing, admitted the offence and asked for 49 others over the past year to be taken into consideration.

These included two robberies, 23 burglaries, three thefts, 15 thefts of or from vehicles, four racially-aggravated assaults and two counts of racially-aggravated criminal damage.

The two youths were with a group of five younger boys when they followed the 81-year-old woman from a post office to an alley off Archibald Road, Worthing, in August.

They grabbed her shopping bag and a struggle ensued, in which the woman fell to the ground.

She let go of the bag, containing £125 of pension money, fearing she was going to be kicked in the head. She was not physically hurt.

Five other boys aged nine to 11 were identified and some gave video interviews.

They implicated Dillon and Chiswell, of Ham Road, Worthing, who later admitted the robbery.

Detective Constable Bob Rollins of Sussex Police said: "Dillon was a one-boy crimewave and I am pleased he is off the streets."
