Living on an 18th Century warship must have been horrible.

Cramped conditions, the stench of the bilges and extremes of heat and cold would have made a vessel extremely unpleasant.

You can experience the sights and sounds in a rerelease of Dorling Kindersley's Stowaway.

This software is a collection of cutaway drawings of a warship, full of intricate detail and a delight to view.

Fortunately, the developers haven't managed to impart the smell of the lower decks but that is about all they have missed. This title is absolutely fascinating and even includes a perplexing puzzle.

On every deck, hidden among the coils of rope, spare sails and barrels of salt pork there is a stowaway to find. Hunting the stowaways can take hours and the experience is a huge learning curve.

The software has about 400 separate screens, numerous popups, 200 animations, two hours of audio, 500 illustrations and a host of colourful and amusing characters.

This title is ideal for children and others who would like to run away to sea.
