Steve Edmonds scored a hat-trick as East Grinstead turned on the style to crush Blueharts 8-0 in National League division two.

The result lifted Grinstead to fifth in the table and they have now scored 17 goals in their last three games.

Player-coach Ian Pattison said: "I was delighted we scored so many goals. It was our biggest win for a number of years and it is good for confidence.

"We didn't hit the heights we have done in the previous matches but we didn't have to. What is also pleasing is that we kept a clean sheet."

Grinstead scored five goals in the last 20 minutes to kill off a Blueharts side who had rallied at the start of the second half.

Duncan Howarth opened the scoring on six minutes with a fine piece of individual skill and Mike Holland followed up with a penalty corner which flew in off a defender's stick.

Edmonds scored his first eight minutes before the break and added two more as Grinstead finished the final quarter strongly. Other scorers were Gregor Eiden, Howarth again and skipper Dominick Male.

The running off the ball, particularly by Andy Medcalf, Holland and Edmonds, was impressive and John Sullivan shone in the second half.

Pattison added: "I was pleased with the performance apart from the first 15 minutes after half time when we stopped working, but we finished strongly after that."
