Brighton beat second placed Blackheath 5-3 to move eight points clear at the top of the Kent/Sussex Regional League.

Craig Carolan led the way again with a hat-trick while Kevin Brown and Paul Watson also netted.

Having fallen behind early on, Brighton levelled with a penalty flick from Carolan after a foul on Don Turnbull. In the second half Brighton took control and established a 5-1 lead before allowing the hosts to net twice more late on.

Skipper Carlo Missirian said: "For a ten minute spell midway through the second half we played some awesome hockey and scored four goals. Everything we had trained for came together in that spell.

"It was an outstanding performance and a pivotal point for us. Over the last two years when we have played these big games we have won or lost. To open up an eight-point gap over the second team is a milestone for us psychologically."
