Keith Miles hailed his Rye and Iden United side after they dumped Southwick out of the John O'Hara League Cup.

The second division promotion-chasers came from behind to clinch a 2-1 win at Old Barn Way.

Player-boss Miles said: "It was a great performance and another good scalp for us.

"We have now beaten two top six division one sides already this season. We have great ability in the team and would certainly hold our own in the first division."

Damian Webber headed Wickers into a 33rd-minute lead but Steve Smith levelled just before half time. Goalscoring midfielder Scott Price hit the winner six minutes into the second half with his 16th goal of the campaign.

Arundel were also on the way to a home defeat by second division opposition as they trailed 3-1 to Westfield in the Sussex RUR Cup.

They hit back however to win 4-3 and remain in great heart ahead of next week's FA Vase tussle with Whitehawk.

Darrol Parris and Paul Oliver, with two, gave Westfield their commanding lead but Steve Blake hit a hat-trick for Mullets before Steve Webb grabbed the 84th-minute winner.

Boss Mike Rowland admitted: "Division two sides are never easy to play against and I was unhappy with my players at half-time. In the second half they started passing the ball and stretching the game out wide and we were rewarded for it."

Whitehawk warmed up for the clash with a 2-1 win at Redhill in Matthew Clark County League division one.

Dean Venton put Hawks ahead after just 31 seconds and Tommy Pattenden added his 21st goal of the season in the second half. Mike Batra pulled a goal back for the hosts on the stroke of full time.

Burgess Hill suffered an injury blow ahead of their FA Vase game with Holbeach United next Saturday.

Steve Harper scored in an impressive 4-0 win at Sidlesham but later hobbled off with a hamstring injury and is now highly doubtful for the Vase trip.

Manager Danny Bloor said: "This is a big blow with the Vase game coming up. Steve hardly had an injury last season but he has had a desperate run with them this year."

Nick Sullivan hit a hat-trick for the Hillians.

East Preston bounced back from successive defeats with a 5-1 win at home to local rivals Wick thanks to two goals from Matt Huckett, including a penalty, Lee Farrell, Dave Walker and an own goal. Dave Schneider replied for the visitors.

Littlehampton took their first point under new manager Carl Stabler with a 1-1 draw in a clash of the bottom two at Peacehaven.

The home side took the lead when a Rod Davies cross was turned into his own net by defender Allan Stoner but Littlehampton levelled before half time through Steve Davies.

Peacehaven had Ian Gilmour sent off for a second bookable offence in the second half. Stabler said: "I felt we should have won it but I will take a point."
