Mid Sussex MP Nicholas Soames has demanded an inquiry into the decision to close a private care home on Christmas Eve.
We reported yesterday Kingstone Nursing Home in Burgess Hill is due to close on December 24, forcing its 16 elderly residents to find new accommodation in the run-up to Christmas.
Mr Soames said: "When I heard about the closure I immediately referred the matter to John Dixon, director of social services for West Sussex, with an urgent request to examine it.
"While I am reluctant to criticise the decision until I know the circumstances, to close a nursing home just before Christmas seems to show a want of sensitivity.
"I am aware of the pressures on private care homes from the Government's wholly unreasonable legislation. I want to hear what Mr Dixon makes of this closure."
Home owner Ann Stewart-Sandeman, who lives in France, is closing the venture because she is retiring.
