A Sussex man has appeared in court accused of a gay sex assault during the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph in Whitehall.

It is claimed Philip Lowe, 46, fondled a man's buttocks and tried to put his hands down his trousers.

The alleged assault took place on Sunday as the Queen and a host of dignitaries laid wreaths to honour the nation's war dead.

Lowe, of Grafton Street, Brighton, spoke only to confirm his name and address at Bow Street Magistrates' Court yesterday.

He denies a charge of indecent assault.

Lowe was bailed to stand trial on December 20.
