Albion boss Steve Coppell believes his squad strengthening could be over.

He does not expect any more money to be made available by chairman Dick Knight and the Board unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Coppell has introduced six new players in cut price deals since taking charge on October 8.

Dean Blackwell and Simon Rodger have been signed on monthly contracts and Andy Petterson re-signed on the same basis.

Steve Sidwell is on loan from Arsenal for a month and Daniel Webb is back on loan with the Seagulls from Southend for the same period.

Coppell has also given a month's trial to Cameroon-born teenager Roger Pandong.

"When I came in I was told there was something, but not a great deal," said Coppell. "Dick said we will help as much as we can. I cannot see more being available to get much more in unless it's an emergency."

Former Wimbledon centre half Blackwell had a scan yesterday afternoon on a hamstring injury sustained in Monday's 1-1 draw at Wolves.

That was only Blackwell's third game for Albion and fourth in the last 14 months in the League. Coppell said: "It might just be a reaction to the training load and the fact that he has been out for so long."

Coppell's biggest concern for Saturday's home sell-out against Derby is a possible striker shortage, with Bobby Zamora and Graham Barrett both battling to be fit.

It's not just ankle and Achilles injuries that are bothering Zamora. "Bobby's had a long-standing back problem, so he sees an osteopath on a regular basis," Coppell revealed.

Barrett has been under treatment at his parent club Arsenal for the knee injury which forced him off at Wolves.

Rodger, a slight doubt before the Wolves game with ankle trouble, was able to train yesterday.

Albion are still waiting to hear the outcome of their appeal to the FA against Michel Kuipers' one match ban after his red card against Bradford. Petterson will take over between the posts on Saturday if the Dutchman's suspension is upheld.

Pandong and David Lee, back from a month's loan at Bristol Rovers, missed a chance to impress Coppell last night when the reserve fixture against Northampton at Worthing was rained off.
