The former chairwoman of the old Brighton Health Care NHS Trust is to have a new building named in her honour.
Baroness Emerton chaired the trust from 1994 to 2000.
An education centre is being built opposite the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Eastern Road, Brighton, to form part of the new Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
The five-storey centre will include a lecture hall, training facilities, staff rooms, a restaurant and library.
Bosses at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, plan to name it the Emerton Building.
Baroness Emerton, 66, who lives in London, is nationally regarded for her work with St John Ambulance and has devoted her life to nursing.
She was made a life peer in 1997 for her services to nursing and St John Ambulance.
The trust board is expected to confirm the decision at its board meeting on Wednesday.
