Profile Respiratory Systems has appointed John Lisle as chief executive.
The Bognor-based firm specialises in the development of drug delivery systems for people with chronic respiratory conditions.
Mr Lisle, from Buckinghamshire, has more than 15 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
He was one of two UK national business directors at GlaxoSmithKline and was responsible for the commercial performance of the firm's respiratory product range in the UK.
Prior to that he spent seven years at Zeneca, the last five of which were in corporate strategy and business development.
Mark Kirby, Profile's retiring chief executive, will take on the role of chairman.
