Chichester are looking forward to a mouth-watering trip to premier division champions Reading in the last 32 of the HA Cup.

A golden goal victory over Gore Court on Sunday took Chi through to the fourth round where they will face the top team in England on November 24.

There are plenty of connections between the two clubs. Andy Barnes, director of coaching at Chichester, used to coach Reading, while his son, England international Ben Barnes, began his hockey at Chichester and now plays for Reading.

In addition, skipper Steve Jones is a former Reading player while player-coach Neil Pendle knows the club well from his time at Surbiton.

Pendle said: "We are really looking forward to it. It is a great opportunity. Some of our young players want to go to the next level and they will be able to see how they do against the best around.

"It will be difficult because they have great individuals and a great team, and you don't often have that balance. But we will go there with a plan."

Peter Turner scored the winner from a short corner in extra time as Chichester beat Gore Court 4-3. Chi came from behind to lead 3-1 with ten minutes to go in normal time before the visitors rallied. Also on target were Rob Pyewell and Brian Lock (two).

East Grinstead have been drawn at home to premier division side Doncaster after beating old rivals Hounslow and Ealing 6-4. After falling 2-0 behind inside 17 minutes, Grinstead showed plenty of spirit to score four goals in six minutes. Gregor Eiden opened the account with a goal which he both created and scored. Ben Payne followed with two spectacular goals, the first a trademark reverse shot and the second a cracking strike from an acute angle, and then Duncan Howarth made it 4-2 from close range.

Just before half time Seye Akande was adjudged to have fouled in the circle as he and keeper Richard Harms blocked a Hounslow forward and the resultant stroke was converted to make it 4-3 at half time.

In the second half, with Dominic Male beginning to win the midfield battle and Jamie Pearce making some useful breaks down the right, Grinstead had the better possession but there was no further scoring until the last ten minutes.

David Litchfield, returning to fitness, was rewarded for his efforts with two goals while Hounslow scored another penalty corner in between.

For Grinstead, Eiden made his most significant contribution to date and Mike Holland covered more ground than anyone on the pitch.

Lewes put up a good display but went out 3-0 at home to premier division side Hampstead and Westminster.

Trailing 2-0 after 19 minutes, Lewes produced a spirited display and were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty stroke midway through the second half. Soon after that, the visitors scored a third to wrap up victory.

Lewes skipper Will Champness said: "Three-nil is perhaps a bit flattering. They were obviously better than us as they should be, playing two divisions higher. We played well and I certainly think we deserved a goal or two."

German Johannis Kloess made his debut on Sunday.

Hampstead now play Cannock, who beat West Bridgford 22-0 on Sunday.

Saturday was a bad day for Sussex clubs in National League division two as both Lewes and East Grinstead lost.

Lewes put up another good show but lost 2-1 at home to Nottingham.

Champness put Lewes ahead from a short corner but Nottingham levelled on the stroke of half time and then scored again seven minutes into a tight second half.

Champness said: "It was definitely the best 70 minutes of hockey we have played this year. Both sides enjoyed it and Nottingham felt they were lucky to win it.

"On another day we could easily have beaten them and they are a top three side, which speaks for itself."

East Grinstead crashed 6-1 away to Indian Gymkhana, who had not previously won this season.

The only moment to savour for Grinstead was a fine goal from Stephen Edmonds who collected Ben Payne's excellent long pass and struck it firmly into the net. Tejinder Hanspal scored four times for the victors.

Chichester made it three draws out of five in the South Premier Division after sharing eight goals with Beckenham.

Peter Turner scored twice, taking his tally to six in five league games, while Brian Lock and Henry Stremes also found the target.

The result leaves Chichester seventh in the table.

Crawley returned to winning ways in Kent/Sussex division one with a 5-2 defeat of University of Kent.

Goals were shared between Jamie Westwood, Steve Main, Terry Higgs and Greg Parker.

Eastbourne moved up to third spot with a 3-2 win over Marden Russets. The goals came from Neil Cunningham, Angus Williams and Will Bryant.

Crowborough's two-match winning run ended as they lost 4-0 away to Sutton Valence.

South Saxons are still looking for their first points of the season following a 5-1 defeat at Ashford. Rob Whitehouse hit the lone reply.

Horsham lost 4-2 at Southampton in the Women's South division one. Andrea Scott and Caroline Petty scored for Horsham.
