Hastings marched into the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in their 108-year history with a superb display at Rockingham Road.

George Wakeling's Dr Martens premier division side ripped apart their Conference hosts with a ruthless display of finishing to humiliate Kettering.

Landry Zahana-Oni grabbed an imperious brace while Stuart Playford, Ellis Remy and Steve Yates also netted to book a clash away at Stevenage in the next round.

United, who drew 0-0 at home with the Conference's bottom club on Saturday, played superbly, frustrating their hosts and in particular an impatient home crowd.

Playford, making his first start since having his appendix removed earlier this month, and goalkeeper Dave King were in inspired form but all the whole team contributed to the club's most memorable victory in years.

The win was extra sweet because it earned the East Sussex side £20,000 in prize money.

Kettering, managed by under-pressure Carl Shutt, should have taken the lead in the third minute when Simon Parker fired a right foot effort wide.

After that early let-off United settled down and Remy failed to hit the target with the outside of his right foot.

Hastings took the lead in the 22nd minute when Danny Simmonds' free-kick was headed in by Playford from just outside the six yard box.

The Sussex side doubled their lead in the 34th minute with a tremendous move started by Remy with a lay-off to Nick Hegley near the halfway line and the wing back sprinted up the line before crossing the ball to Remy who slid in to score in the bottom corner.

Frenchman Landry Zahana-Oni scored the third with a sweet left foot shot into Simon Ward's bottom right hand corner in the 71st minute and Yates made it 4-0 seven minutes later with a floated shot over the home keeper from the edge of the area.

Zahana-Oni rounded off a five-star display with an 81st minute chip over the beleagured Ward from just inside the area with his left foot.
