Mid Sussex are up to fourth in the Kent/Sussex Regional League after twice coming from behind in a 3-2 win over Worthing.

Summer signing Bejay Ranger bagged the winner at the end of an action-packed first half with his third goal for the club since joining from Chichester.

There was no further scoring in the second half despite Worthing pressure as Mids held on for their second win of the season.

Mids have lost just once in four league games and that was to early season leaders Brighton.

Coach Luke Hurle said: "I was pleased with how we reacted to important stages in the match.

"I thought we were in control for large periods of the game and that was pleasing. Importantly it's three points from a tough fixture and we're continuing to improve."

Worthing had the perfect start as Mids conceded possession from the pushback and Mark Duncan led a breakaway from which Dan Lock finished with a trademark reverse stick shot.

The home side rallied and skipper Andy Green finished from a short corner to level the scores on ten minutes. However, Mids' concentration was found lacking again and Worthing restored their lead through Kieron Jones with a reverse stick strike.

Stuart McConachie, Duncan Wood-Allum and Mark Humphries established control again and dictated Mids' best play from midfield. It took another short corner to break down Worthing's resistance as Wood-Allum lashed in McConachie's short pass at the top of the D.

Mids took a deserved lead minutes later following a run and cross from James Goodwin, which popped out to Ranger at the top of the D and he fired into a corner.

The second half saw concerted pressure from Worthing but Mids held firm.

Worthing skipper David Edmondson said: "We rallied in the second half, but despite considerable possession we could not find a way through a well marshalled Mid Sussex rearguard."
