Clive Richards, from Itchingfield, near Horsham, claimed another Caterham racing championship title last weekend.

The 41-year-old was crowned Autosport Caterham Eurocup champion for the Roadsport class after a brace of top scores at the Nrburgring.

This was Richards' third title in nine years.

The Sussex driver's twin wins in Germany were the culmination of a season of hard work by his Colards Motorsport team.

Richards won the Roadsport class in all all rounds of the championship on some of Europe's toughest circuits, including Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Zandvoort in the Netherlands, Dijon in France, Brands Hatch and the Nrburgring.

He finished the season 28 points ahead of his nearest rival, Turkish driver Olcay Kipoz.

Richards, who won the Caterham K Series championship in 1994 and in Caterham Vauxhalls in 1997, said: "It's great to have another championship under my belt.

"It would have been nice to have had a bit more opposition at times, but you can't complain too much when you are winning."

In race one at the Nrburgring last Saturday, Richards won the Roadsport battle by a 30-second margin, despite a major incident.

He said: "I had to put my car into a full 360-degree spin to avoid another spinning car, but other than that it was quite an uneventful race."

Daniel Mitchell took second in class and Kipoz third.

Richards' progress to Roadsport class victory on Sunday was even more convincing, with Mitchell second and Kipoz third once more.

In the Superlight class, Scotsman Barry Horne clinched the championship title with a win in the final round, bringing his season's tally to eight victories from ten races.

Final championship placings, Roadsport: 1 Clive Richards (Itchingfield), 200; 2 Olcay Kipoz (Turkey), 172; 3 Cem Kitapci (Turkey), 147; 4 Aytug Sakallioglu (Turkey), 145; 5 Bulent Solmaz (Turkey), 115; 6 Sureyya Saruhan (Turkey), 110.

Kevin Stone has his eyes on a second top three spot as the BEMSEE Championship comes to an end at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Peacehaven racer Stone has already finished second in the Rookie 400 southern series and now he wants to take third place in the nationwide class.

After blowing the engine of his borrowed bike at Snetterton, Stone dropped down to fourth in the championship and he goes into the final rounds of the championship 13 points behind the third place rider.

Earlier this week, Stone thought his season was over altogether when the crankshalf snapped on his transporter van but sponsors Pyecroft have come to the rescue, enabling him to get to Brands this weekend.
