St Leonards face an exodus of players after manager Glyn White quit last weekend.

White resigned from the post he describes as the hardest in Sussex football after his playing budget was cut for the third time in ten weeks.

Early exits from the FA Trophy and FA Cup cost Saints thousands of pounds and the club have reacted accordingly.

Des Boateng has already been released and Andy Johnson could follow.

White, who took over at The Firs last November, said: "I feel totally let down by the club. The only reason I resigned was because of the financial state of the club and the budget cuts.

"The financial situation was impossible. I was warned this could happen, a lot people I spoke to told me not to take the job.

"It is probably the hardest managerial job in Sussex. You have to work on a shoestring and have Hastings and Eastbourne Borough nearby doing well. St Leonards are the poor relations and you end up picking up the players other sides do not want. It can't be any harder in the future."

White left after Saturday's win at Burnham, only Saints' third in 11 Dr Martens eastern division matches this season.

Although White was under pressure, he insists the decision to go was his.

He added: "I couldn't do it, I felt I had to leave. The last cut meant my budget was one third of what it was at the start of the season and it wasn't enough to compete.

"I resigned so the money the club save on me can be spent on players instead."

Terry White, Gavin Ramsden and Andy Thomson took control of team affairs for Monday's 3-2 win against Sidley in the Hastings Senior Cup and will continue for the foreseeable future.

Saints entertain Histon tomorrow and chairman Mark Barfoot has backed the management to bring stability to the club after White became their third managerial casualty in a year.

Danny Davis returns from suspension for Lewes away to Bracknell Town but Andy Driscoll (back), Luke Gedling (calf) and Graham Harper (hamstring) are all injury doubts.

Owen Hill (bruised shin) is a major doubt for Withdean ahead of their FA Vase tie away to Merstham. Striker Rod Davies, recently signed from Merstham, is cup-tied.
