Four weeks ago Hayley Cramer was playing drums at a holiday camp.

Tomorrow she is appearing alongside Irish pop star, Ronan Keating and singer Lulu, on national television in front of millions of viewers.

The 19-year-old was invited to audition for BBC television's Parkinson show on her first day at Brighton Institute of Modern Music.

Hayley, who is studying a one-year higher diploma course in modern music, said: "I was absolutely gobsmacked.

"It was my first day and I couldn't believe an opportunity like that had come my way. It was pretty incredible.

"I played drums at a holiday camp in Hayling Island, Hampshire, all summer.

"The summer before that I was at Butlins in Bognor.

"So the thought of national television was a bit scary."

She and another drummer at the institute had a week to learn Ronan Keating's ballad, We've Got Tonight, from his latest album.

Her holiday camp experience put her in good stead and she sailed through the audition.

Ronan's co-manager Mark Plunkett, gave the go ahead for her to perform with the former Boyzone pin-up.

Hayley, who is from Worthing and lives in Bognor, said: "I was so shocked and really happy to be chosen.

"I called my mum and she screamed down the phone. I felt like I was on Pop Idol."

When she told her father Peter, a bass player, it turned out she was following in his footsteps.

He appeared on Top of The Pops in the same BBC television studios when he was a little older in the Seventies.

He was in a band called Autumn and they performed a single called My Little Girl.

Hayley, who recorded the show yesterday, said: "I turned up at the studios on my own. It was pretty daunting. It felt weird telling the security guards I was there to play drums for Ronan Keating."

Once on the set, Ronan, a sponsor of the institute, came over and introduced himself.

He asked her how college was and made sure she was all right. After the show, she posed for photographs with him.

Hayley, who has played the drums for eight years, said: "I really enjoyed being on set with Ronan and Lulu singing. It was an amazing feeling.

"Ronan was just a normal guy. He was really nice and wished me the best of luck."

She said she could not wait until her television debut was screened.

She and her friends and family will be celebrating with a bottle of bubbly.

Hayley, whose brother Leon is also a drummer and sister Natalie, a singer, added: "It has been my dream to play with big musicians and now I've done it.

"It all happened so quickly, I still can't quite believe it.

"I don't think I will go back to holiday camps now. I would like to play for Sting. He usually has one of the top ten drummer in the world. But you never know."

Parkinson, with Ronan Keating and Lulu (and Hayley Cramer), is on BBC1 tomorrow at 10.25pm.
