When I was first diagnosed with kidney cancer earlier this year, I was offered very little information or guidance as to where I might find information about this relatively unknown cancer and the types of treatment available.

However, having joined Kidney Cancer UK - the only UK-based support group for kidney cancer patients and their carers - I am very keen to support its work in raising awareness of a cancer with which some 6,000 patients in the UK are diagnosed each year.

Kidney Cancer UK aims to provide practical advice and up-to-date information on the management of kidney cancer and to work closely with the medical profession to improve standards of care. It is a registered charity (no 1089119) and is run by patients for patients.

As with so many charities, we rely totally on membership subscriptions and fund-raising for our income.
