Amateur dramatists fear their group could die out unless a production of Dial M For Murder makes a killing.
Actors with the long-established Sackville Players in Hove are desperate for their version of the play, which was made into a movie by Alfred Hitchcock, to be a success.
The group has suffered from dwindling numbers and spokesman Stuart Jones said: "We badly need to break even with this or we will not be able to go forward."
The play was written by Frederick Knott and filmed by Hitchcock in 1954.
It will be performed at Hove Park Upper School in Nevill Road from September 26 to 28.
Tickets are £5 or £4 concessions.
