Exactly what is the Government supposed to do about milk prices (Opinion, August 24)?

The whole system is now so totally caught up in EU quotas and subsidies that no one government can extricate itself from this mess without massive cash injections. No government could sustainably afford these.

Who exactly demands cheap milk and produce?

We, the consumers, who may well take the moral high ground in public but are all too happy to buy cheap imports from our local supermarkets.

Unless we are prepared to pay realistic prices and genuinely buy locally produced food we have only ourselves to blame for the crisis in farming.
