Publishing group Quarto showed how book lovers across the world had shrugged off economic concerns by posting a jump in half-year profits to £2.2 million

Quarto has two core areas - creating books for other publishers, including Hove-based RotoVision, and publishing its own titles.

Chairman Laurence Orbach said: "If there is to be a general slowdown in the growth of retail sales worldwide, we anticipate the impact on book sales will not be very great and, as our forward orders are good, we expect to achieve our goals for the year."
