Farmers are no longer allowed to burn stubble but still the thoughtless, lazy and ignorant are allowed to set light to all kinds of rubbish in their back gardens without consideration for the thousands of people who like to enjoy what little good weather we are afforded in the British summer.
Every time we start a car, Brighton and Hove City Council shouts from the rooftops about the pollution we are creating.
This is not to mention the high risk of the fire spreading to houses, sheds and fences (which I am sure the fire brigade could confirm has happened many times in the past).
I dread to think how much of our garden wildlife is put to an agonising death by allowing this outdated, outmoded, anti-social and uncivilised activity to persist any longer.
So come on Brighton and Hove City Council, which likes to think it is a trendsetter, pass a bylaw and ban it.
