Epic is designing a web site to help Channel 4 nurture creative talent.

The Brighton-based e-learning company has been appointed by 4Learning, the educational arm of Channel 4, to design, develop and deliver a learning web site for creative, young people.

The IdeasFactory site, which will be launched later in the autumn, will be a source of learning and support for those wishing to enter the creative industries and help further the professional development of those already in creative jobs.

The creative industries are a critical sector of the new economy, worth more than £60 billion a year. More than 60 per cent of graduates want to work in the creative industries and about 1.2 million people are currently employed in the sector, often working as freelances or in businesses of five people or less.

The site will be targeted at 14 to 34-year-olds and will combine streaming video, articles, games and database resources. There will also be a series of creative zones providing information on different areas of the creative industries.

Head of 4Learning Heather Rabbatts said: "Channel 4 is a leading investor in creative business growth and we aim to be a catalyst for the next generation of creative talent."

Epic's sales and marketing director Steve Rayson said: "The new web site will be a benchmark in the design and integration of learning, creativity and business development."

Epic has also been helping to revamp the UK Parliament's web site.

The redesigned site, launched without fanfare last week, incorporates a better search engine, live webcasting of the Commons, Lords, Westminster Hall and select committees, improved navigation and a chance to scrutinise bills under debate.

The new site replaces the one launched by parliament in 1996.

Parliament, with the exception of the House of Lords, has already gone into recess for the summer, giving Epic three months to rectify any teething problems before MPs return in October.

The company does a lot of work on government contracts and has set up Platinum, a secure intranet for top civil servants.
