Tragic Sarah Payne's name could soon be helping other youngsters through music.

A CD single called Sarah's World is being cut as a tribute to the kidnapped and murdered schoolgirl and to spread the safety message to children.

It has been written by Mark Scott, who co-wrote Cher's smash hit Believe.

Sarah's family is hoping the song will have similar success.

Her uncle Paul Williams, of Upper Beeding, near Steyning, said: "We want to make children aware of the dangers and we believe the best way to reach them is through music."

Sarah's parents Sara and Michael came up with the idea and Mr Williams approached his friend Mr Scott to write the words.

The song will be launched at a fun day in memory of Sarah on June 29 at Buckingham Park in Shoreham.

When the song is published, the bulk of the proceeds will go to the British Safety Houses Association which the Payne family and friends are promoting nationwide.

The charity, which has projects in Worthing and nearby Ferring, provides safe and secure homes for children in danger.

Vetted homes display special signs in windows.

Paul Hodson, of Rome Management which represents Mark Scott, said: "The song not only serves as a tribute to Sarah's life but also helps communicate the need for us all to be aware of the dangers that exist.

"It wasn't an easy task to create a song that deals with such a sensitive subject matter."

Eight-year-old Sarah was grabbed from near her grandparents' home at Kingston Gorse, near Worthing, in July, 2000.

Roy Whiting is serving life for her kidnap and murder.

Mr Hodson said: "Every parent should listen to Sarah's World and the proceeds from the song will take us nearer providing a safe house in every area of the country."

A line from the song reads: "So don't forget why we should try for the futures of our kind, don't let them hide, don't let them cry."
