Drinkers ordering a cocktail at one inventive pub may be surprised when they are offered a film by the same name instead of a vodka martini.

Cocktail, the Hollywood hit starring Tom Cruise, could be one of the many movies on show at the Farm Tavern, which has transformed its upstairs bar into one of the smallest cinemas in Brighton and Hove.

The pub in Farm Road, Hove, is to give members of its film club the chance to choose which movies they want to watch while they sup.

Asking to see a film will mean being handed a drink and some popcorn and being led to a room filled with giant bean bags and a 5ft digital, surround-sound screen.

Tanya Gander, who jointly owns the pub with her husband D'Arcy, said: "We just thought the area needed something different.

"Everywhere does Sky Sports and we wanted to try something new.

"We have wanted to do it for a while. We took over here about a month ago and thought this is the place to do it.

"We also own the Freemasons in Western Road but the cocktail bar in there already makes it really busy and it would not have been the right setting for a cinema.

"I think pubs need to keep coming up with new ideas, especially pubs like The Farm which is quite small and community-based. This will be something new and different."

The first night of the new cinema is tonight, when viewers can watch Bonnie And Clyde.

Taxi Driver is being shown tomorrow night.

The cinema holds 25 people and membership is open to about 100 people.

Tanya said: "Annual membership will cost £15 per person and £25 for a couple. After this, the films will be free and there will also be free popcorn with every film."

The cinema will also be available for hire for private showings and parties.

Anyone wanting to be a member should either drop into the pub, call 01273 325902 or visit their web site, www.thefarmpub.co.uk, which is being set up this week.
