Dean Wilkins is among the contenders to become Micky Adams' No. 2 at Leicester City.

Adams, who quit Albion last season, admires the work Wilkins has done with the Albion youth team.

He said: "I'm not denying I'm interested. Dean is an excellent youth coach who is possibly under-used and under-valued at the moment."

There has been a suggestion talks could take place this week but there will be nothing set up unless Adams makes an official approach to Albion.

He said: "I'd go through the correct channels and that would be through Dick Knight. But I do talk to Dean like I would to a lot of my ex-colleagues."

Adams has had talks with Alan Cork, Adams' assistant at Albion, about the same role at Leicester. Cork is currently available after parting with Cardiff and reportedly visited Leicester to take a look around last week.

Adams said: "I've spoken to Alan but that's all I want to say on the subject at the moment."

Wilkins has had an impressive record in his four seasons and youth manager and coach at Albion.

The 39-year-old former Seagulls midfielder has helped to produce eight players for the Albion first team, including Scott Ramsay, Danny Davis, Duncan McArthur, Will Packham, Shaun Wilkinson, Chris McPhee, Adam Virgo and Dean Hammond.

He took over the side when it had just finished bottom of the league and guided them to mid-table in his first season in charge. The following season they won the Youth Alliance.

The youngsters were runners-up in each of the last two seasons and last term set a club record when they reached the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup.

It is a record that has clearly caught the eye of Adams.

Bob Booker, No. 2 to Adams at Albion, turned down the chance to assist his old boss at Leicester last week. Booker decided to sign a two-year contract to stay at Albion and serve his third manager in 19 months after the recent departure of Peter Taylor.

It was thought the Seagulls' backroom staff would stay in place but it is understood Adams is stepping up his search as he wants a No. 2 in place for when City start pre-season training on July 1.

Adams took over from Dave Bassett at Leicester towards the end of the season with Bassett being appointed director of football.
