During the spring of this year, my husband's cancer was diagnosed as terminal. When my husband chose to spend his remaining days at home and not in hospital, I readily agreed, though had numerous doubts on how home nursing could be made to work.
This was made possible with the help of Martlets@home and I was so pleased to read Siobhan Ryan's article on the work of this team of thoroughly professional people (The Argus, May 24). The nursing care was exemplary but, more than that, the staff showed love, respect and support. In short, they proved to be a lovely band of people.
My thoughts now turn to the continuation of the service after the pilot scheme period has elapsed. My experience has confirmed to me that all patients in my husband's situation should be able to benefit from this service and I would encourage all with influence to promote the scheme to continue permanently.
