Glynde's young guns shot down Newick to make it two wins from three since promotion to Division One of the East Sussex League.

Ian Mepham's team moved up to third place in the table following success against a Newick side who had won their first two games.

Glynde are currently reaping the rewards of investing in youth with a number of teenagers making an impact.

Mick Howarth, now in his 31st season for Glynde, said: "In the Seventies we were a really strong club but in the Eighties and Nineties we really struggled.

"We worked on the colts and now we are reaping the rewards.

"A number of players who played in the Sussex Junior Festival final two or three years ago are now in the first team, such as Dominic Shepherd, Dale Tranter and Stuart Mouland. We also have an under-15 player, Rob Mouland, in the first team. The future is very bright."

Tranter took 4-13 and Paul Rolfe 4-32 as Newick were bowled out for 109, Sam Carter top-scoring with 38. Glynde lost just three wickets in reply as Aussie Danny Shepperson (41 not out) and Gary Baker (32 not out) led them to victory.

Champions Crowhurst Park head the table with maximum points after three games. Their latest success was an emphatic 103-run victory over Heathfield Park.

Skipper Paul Brookes hit 70 as Park posted a total of 208 all out. Victor Walcott chipped in with 36 and Keith Hobbs' knock of 33 included six fours and a six. Matt Bashford's 3-49 was the pick of the bowling.

In reply, Graham Corke (3-17) removed three of the top four batsman and Walcott (6-52) tidied up the rest of the innings as Heathfield collapsed to 105 all out.

Second placed Fletching were frustrated by DPB (Eastbourne). Terry Lucas (60 not out) and Mark Horscroft (45) helped Fletching post a challenging 214-4 but the visitors refused to take up the chase and closed on 106-6. Ali Horscroft took 4-31 for Fletching.

Ringmer enjoyed a comfortable win at home to Ditchling despite a poor start which saw them slip to 42-5. Glyn Crees (51) and Murray Barnett put on 57 for the sixth wicket, then Duncan Pugh (65 not out) and Crees added 72 for the seventh wicket, helping Ringmer to a total of 224-8. Charlie Austin (4-55) was the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, wickets fell regularly and Ditchling were eventually dismissed for 126 despite 40 from Mark Hilfiker. Barnett claimed 3-52 and skipper Gary Holder 2-9.
