The family of murdered schoolgirl Sarah Payne have organised a bike run to raise money to help save children from abduction.

Proceeds will go to the British Safety House Association, which runs a scheme in Worthing and Ferring.

The scheme provides havens for children in trouble by putting distinctive yellow signs in the windows of vetted homes that show children it is safe to ask for help.

Sarah's uncle Paul Williams has helped organise the bike ride and her grandparents Lesley and Terry Payne will be providing refreshments at the halfway stage.

The sponsored ride is about 12-and-a-half miles and starts from the Fox Pub in Patching, near Worthing, before making its way to Kingston Gorse and back.

Cyclists will be setting off at 10am on bank holiday Monday and from noon there will be a barbecue and music at the pub.

Anyone interested in taking part should call Trisha Porter on 01903 249987.

Sarah, eight, was snatched close to her grandparents' home in Kingston Gorse in July 2000.

Roy Whiting was jailed for her kidnap and murder last December.
