In the past four months, I have had three different employers.

I worked as a special-needs classroom assistant but had to leave because I could not afford to live on my wages.

I then got a job as a telesales agent. I did well but left in disgust at the shambolic and deceitful way both I and my colleagues were treated.

I wasn't even paid my commission on time and the rules were changed to suit the employer so any objection was classed as gross misconduct and was therefore a dismissable offence.

I have since informed several unions but, hey, who really cares - after all, it's only telesales, isn't it? Telesales is one of the largest forms of employment in Brighton and Hove.

I walked out of that job and into another telesales job, where I have the onerous task of talking to people about anything they have not specifically asked for - in other words, cold calling.

I would love a job in which I could be involved and give a damn about the people I work for and deal with but there doesn't appear to be such a thing in the city.

Besides doing something which should be taken care of by social services or the NHS, I cannot earn a decent wage without going off track.

I would like to see greater respect from employers in Brighton and Hove. There is a massive turnover of staff and a lot of disillusioned people.

I have spoken to several of my employers about this and they all said it was just the way it was around here.

Someone tell me they have a job which is interesting, challenging, useful and pays a decent wage and I will have a go.

Brighton and Hove has some wonderful places to go to and things to do but is full of unscrupulous "make a quick buck" employers.

Change that and it would be the place to be.
