Brighton beach is to be transformed into a giant outdoor cinema for the seventh summer in a row.

Stella Movie Classics are planning to visit Brighton to screen films to a seafront audience.

Brighton and Hove City Council is expected to grant permission for films to be shown on July 26 and 27.

Each year the audience has grown and council officials reckon last year crowds totalled 20,000 each evening.

Films on the giant screen will probably be Moulin Rouge, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, and the cult movie Quadrophenia, which was partly filmed in the resort.

Screenings will start as soon as it is dark enough, at about 9pm, and continue until 11.30pm.

Stella Artois will be sold from bars on the seafront as part of the sponsorship deal.

Arrangements are taking place to make sure the beach is clean and safe for use the next day.
