So it is considered Brighton and Hove is a divided city - with a widening gulf between rich and poor.
It is not only money that divides but, since the formation of Brighton and Hove as a single unit, the city council seems intent on eliminating Hove's identity as in the past, when attempts were made to ignore the name of Portslade.
Within the past few years we have witnessed Hove Town hall renamed the Hove Centre, the closure of the well-equipped information centre at the Town Hall and relocation to Brighton, funding denied to Hove's Citizens Advice Bureau and, with effect from the end of April, the closure of Hove's Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages office.
What is to be the next target? Does our council wish to downgrade Hove and Portslade to be merely suburbs of Brighton?
We shall continue to be a divided city if all emphasis is continually placed upon Brighton and not equally with all communities.
