Former Albion footballer Edward Maybank appeared in court accused of assault causing grievous bodily harm to his girlfriend.
Maybank, 45, known as Teddy, of Blatchington Road, Hove, denied committing the offence on Christmas Day last year.
He also denied putting Sarah Rippon in fear of violence by harassment.
The case at Hove Crown Court was adjourned yesterday and he was remanded on bail.
