A children's disco has been shut down by thieves who stole lighting and sound equipment.

Linda and David Bolton have been running the weekly free Fun Factory at Mile Oak Community Centre, Southwick, every week for the past six years.

But future sessions have been cancelled unless money can be found to replace the £2,000 disco lights, microphones and speakers stolen at the weekend.

The equipment was stored in a trailer in the car park at the Christian Outreach Centre in North Street, Portslade.

Mr Bolton said the theft was discovered yesterday.

He said: "It appears someone climbed over a wall, got into the building and opened the garage doors from the inside before cutting the trailer free and driving off with it.

"The Fun Factory has about 60 members, aged five to 11, who meet every Wednesday for a disco.

"We've built the collection of equipment over the years and we won't be able to run the club until it is replaced, which could take some weeks.

"Having this happen to a club which has brought such enjoyment to so many children is just very sad."

Anyone with information about the raid is asked to contact police on 0845 6070 999.
