ACCLAIMED American group who formed in Buffalo in the late Eighties.

By the mid-Nineties, critics were marvelling over their eclectic pop-jazz sounds.

Although some members of the band have now moved on, Mercury Rev are back with a new sound and support from Manchester favourites I Am Kloot.

HANK MARVIN, Chichester Festival Theatre, Oaklands Park, Chichester, April 20
THE former member of Cliff Richard's group The Shadows will be playing on the opening date of a European tour.

After 40 years and more than 150 albums, Marvin's unique guitar-playing has influenced stars such as Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler.

Famous for his instrumental hit Apache, Marvin is one of Britain's most enduring rock legends.

MIKE STERN, Pavilion Theatre, New Road, Brighton, April 25
THE US jazz guitarist has been at the forefront of his profession for the past two decades.

With a resume that reads like a Who's Who of music, Stern has worked with artists including Miles Davis, Joe Henderson and Billy Cobham.

He will be performing tracks from his latest album Voices, which contains dialogues with world-music diva Elizabeth Kontomanou.

THE SHINING, Concorde 2, Madeira Drive, Brighton, April 23
FIVE years ago, The Verve overtook Oasis as the must-see rock/indie band of the moment.

The group soon disbanded leaving Richard Ashcroft to go solo and the others to form The Shining.

With all-new material, the group fit effortlessly into the long line of classic rock bands with their combination of noisy guitars, heavy soul and accessible melodies.
