Council tenants opposed to the privatisation of council housing attended a pre-Budget briefing at Westminster.
Among the speakers were Brighton Kemp Town Labour MP Dr Des Turner.
Campaigners from Birmingham, where tenants recently voted by a majority of two to one against the sale of their homes to a housing association, were given a warm welcome.
Brighton and Hove tenant representatives have invited Mark Weeks, of the national campaign Defend Council Housing, to speak at their annual Tenant Participation Conference, at the Quality Hotel on April 22.
HACAS Chapman Hendy, consultants to Brighton and Hove City Council, have made recommendations for the future of 13,000 council homes.
Options include keeping things as they are, transfer to a housing association or a private finance initiative.
Tenant representative Ruth Arundell said: "The conference will be a lively event and we are looking forward to a genuine debate.
"We are delighted by the Birmingham result, which shows what well organised campaigners can achieve."
The local campaign already has the support of several Labour, Green Party and Liberal Democrat councillors.
